Our ethos

The ethos behind Kola Nut Productions and all our promotional travel films and photography is what drives us forward. Without such ethos Kola Nut Productions would simply not exist. As a coalition based on a common belief, certain factors are paramount in our ideas and ideals.

The tourism world is ever-growing, with this, a variety of roads become travelled, some are trod carefully offering a positive, empowering outcome for local people, their culture and environment. Other outcomes become detrimental, destroying local land to make profit, ignoring the rights of indigenous people and warranting no respect to the earth and animals that get destroyed whilst holiday makers top up their tan. We at Kola Nut Productions believe, that as individuals, we have a responsibility to make sure our actions are positive, we are privileged purely because we have an opportunity to do something that can offer support to others. Working with local communities, we want to see the social, economic and environmental postive benefits of tourism. We want to this to be in the hands of the people, not in the hands of those who see tourism as way of fulfilling their greed.

"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect."
- Chief Seattle, 1855

What is sustainable tourism

Sustainable tourism is simply about making a positive difference to the people and environment that are being visited and travelled, it is about preserving and developing. It is a sub-branch to sustainable development, something Kola Nut Productions feel passionately about. The following are examples by the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO); we think these examples offer a good starting point for sustainble/responsile tourism and also aspects that we at Kola Nut Productions believe are crucial to promote thorugh our professional promotional travel films and photography work:

  • Making optimal use of environmental resources that constitute a key element in tourism development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity.

  • Respecting the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, conserve their built and living cultural heritage and traditional values and contribute to inter-cultural understanding and tolerance.

  • Ensure viable, long-term economic operations, providing socio-economic benefits to all stakeholders that are fairly distributed, including stable employment and income-earning opportunities and social services to host communities and contributing to poverty alleviation.

  • Sustainable tourism development requires the informed participation of all relevant stakeholders, as well as strong political leadership to ensure wide participation and consensus building. Achieving sustainable tourism is a continuous process and it requires constant monitoring of impacts, introducing the necessary preventive and/or corrective measures whenever necessary.

  • Sustainable tourism should also maintain a high level of tourist satisfaction and ensure a meaningful experience to the tourists, raising their awareness about sustainability issues and promoting sustainable tourism practices amongst them.
